How the day is chosen
The texts allow Tulasī’s marriage at several times, but it is done everywhere with the waking of Viṣṇu (the Prabodhotsava), in the early night of the pāraṇa day, the day the Prabodhinī Ekādaśī fast is broken. We take the early night as pradoṣa, the three muhūrtas after sunset: our reading. Dharmasindhu pp. 81–82
The fast and the pāraṇa day in Dubai
Dubai timeIn Dubai, the Ekādaśī runs from Tue 06:05 to Wed 07:41: the Smārta fast for the Prabodhinī Ekādaśī is on Wednesday, so Tulsi Vivah is on Thursday, the pāraṇa day, in the early night. Dharmasindhu pp. 81–82
The rite
- Viṣṇu, as Dāmodara, and Tulasī are worshipped together and bathed with turmeric and scented oil; Tulasī is given turmeric, kuṅkuma, a marriage thread and ornaments.
- The god is woken with bells and the verse that begins “Rise, rise, Govinda”.
- A curtain is held between Tulasī and the image of Kṛṣṇa while the maṅgalāṣṭaka verses are recited; then it is taken away and rice is scattered.
- Tulasī is given to Dāmodara as a bride.
Other days the texts allow
Done apart from the waking of Viṣṇu, the marriage may go on any of the three days from the Navamī, any day from the Ekādaśī to the Pūrṇimā, or a day with a marriage nakṣatra in Kārtika’s bright fortnight. Dharmasindhu p. 81 The Nirṇaya-sindhu has a golden image of Hari worshipped with Tulasī for three days from the Navamī, then the marriage rite. Nirṇaya-sindhu p. 306 (the Padma, via Hemādri)
The fast before it, with its pāraṇa time: Prabodhinī (Dev Uthani) Ekādaśī.

Questions
From the Dharmasindhu pp. 81–82, with the page for each.
When is Tulsi Vivah 2027?
In Delhi, on Thursday, 11 November 2027, the day after the Prabodhinī (Dev Uthani) Ekādaśī fast, in the early night, 17:28 to 20:07. In London, New York City and Toronto, it is Wednesday, 10 November. Dharmasindhu pp. 81–82
What time is Tulsi Vivah?
In the early night of the pāraṇa day, the evening after the Prabodhinī Ekādaśī fast is broken, when Viṣṇu is woken: in Delhi in 2027, 17:28 to 20:07. The Dharmasindhu says the early night; we show pradoṣa, the three muhūrtas after sunset, as our reading of it. Dharmasindhu p. 81
Can Tulsi Vivah be done on another day?
Yes. The Dharmasindhu records that the marriage is done everywhere with the waking of Viṣṇu on the pāraṇa day. Done apart from the waking of Viṣṇu, the marriage may go on any of the three days from the Navamī, any day from the Ekādaśī to the Pūrṇimā, or a day with a marriage nakṣatra in Kārtika’s bright fortnight. The Nirṇaya-sindhu has a golden image of Hari worshipped with Tulasī for three days from the Navamī, then the marriage rite. Dharmasindhu p. 81; Nirṇaya-sindhu p. 306
Why is it the day after Dev Uthani Ekadashi?
The marriage is joined to the Prabodhotsava, the waking of Viṣṇu, which custom holds in the early night of the pāraṇa day, the day after the Prabodhinī (Dev Uthani) Ekādaśī fast. Some texts put the waking on the Ekādaśī night itself; the Nirṇaya-sindhu leaves that to regional custom. Dharmasindhu p. 81; Nirṇaya-sindhu p. 308
Why is the date different in the US or UK?
Tulsi Vivah is decided by the Ekādaśī fast at the city. The tithi begins and ends at the same moment everywhere, but sunrise and sunset come at different hours, so a city far to the west or east can keep another day. Dharmasindhu pp. 81–82
