Questions

From the Nirṇaya-sindhu pp. 283–284, with the page for each.

When is Dussehra?

In Delhi: Tuesday, 20 October 2026, Saturday, 9 October 2027 and Wednesday, 27 September 2028. Each city keeps its own day by its own sunrise and sunset. Nirṇaya-sindhu pp. 283–284

Is Vijayadashami the same day?

Yes. Dussehra is the popular name of Vijayādaśamī, the Āśvina śukla Daśamī, when Aparājitā is worshipped in the afternoon. Nirṇaya-sindhu p. 283

Why is the date different in the US or UK?

Dussehra is decided by the Daśamī in the afternoon at the city. The tithi begins and ends at the same moment everywhere, but sunrise and sunset come at different hours, so a city far to the west or east can keep another day. Nirṇaya-sindhu p. 284
