Why the date differs In Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and 60 more cities, the Caturthī is current at Monday’s moonrise and not at Tuesday’s, so Sakat Chauth is on Monday. In New York City, Edison, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Washington, Toronto and Brampton, the Caturthī is current at the moonrise on neither Sunday nor Monday, so Sakat Chauth is on the later day, Monday. In Dallas, San Jose, Los Angeles and Vancouver, the Caturthī is current at Sunday’s moonrise and not at Monday’s, so Sakat Chauth is on Sunday. Nirṇaya-sindhu p. 47
