What the search checks

Only days already on the year’s list for the wedding place are checked. These rules then use your two charts.

The listed days for each place

Rule For What it does Source
Jupiter Bride Graded from her Moon sign: best in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th; with worship in the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 10th; condemned in the 4th, 8th and 12th. Shown, never used to drop a day: Vyāsa needs no Jupiter for a bride past ten. MC 6.12, pp. 233–234
The Sun Groom Good by gochara, with vedha, counts in a day’s favour. Otherwise it is named as a fault; the texts read give no remedy. Our reading MC 6.12, p. 234
The Moon Both Judged at each lagna and at godhūli. One partner lacking: a fault, with Dharmasindhu’s remedy, a gift of silver. Both lacking: that lagna is dropped. Our reading DS p. 181
Tara Both The 3rd, 5th or 7th star from a birth star is bad. One partner: a fault, with the verse’s remedy, rock salt. Both: that lagna is dropped. Lifted for a partner when the Moon is in a benefic’s sign and good for them. Our reading MC 4.18, p. 157; 5.32, p. 192
First-born Each first-born The birth month, star and tithi are barred for a partner marked first-born, and the birth muhūrta too, Vasiṣṭha’s addition as we read it. For a partner who is not, the same month, star and tithi count in the day’s favour. Our reading MC 6.14, p. 236
Three jyeshthas Both Both first-born: never in the month of Jyeshtha. In another month the Dharmasindhu calls it middling; the Muhūrta-cintāmaṇi’s commentary rejects that and records Garga’s view that an eldest son and an eldest daughter should not marry each other. The search notes it and removes no date. One first-born in Jyeshtha: a light fault, for when there is no other way. MC 6.15, pp. 236–237; DS p. 181
The 8th lagna Both The 8th sign from either partner’s birth lagna or Moon sign may not rise, except the six signs MC 6.45 exempts. Guru’s remedy can lift it. MC 6.44–45, pp. 271–272
Rising sign Both A partner’s Moon sign rising is a fault. Their birth lagna rising, or the 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th sign from either, counts in the lagna’s favour. MC p. 271

Your charts can remove a day

A listed day goes when your charts bar every lagna and godhūli on it: both partners lacking the Moon’s or the tara’s strength, a first-born’s birth month, or the three jyeshthas. The result lists each removed day with its reason.

With only a birth star

A partner entered by birth star has no lagna, birth month or tithi, so the rules that need them are skipped, and the result says which. Jupiter, the Sun, the Moon and tara still apply.

Remedies are the texts’ words

Where a text gives a remedy for a fault, the result quotes it with its source: a gift of silver for a weak Moon (Dharmasindhu), rock salt for a bad tara (Muhurta Chintamani 4.18). They are statements from the texts, not advice.

Questions

What does this check that the general list doesn’t?

The year’s list holds the days that suit most couples at a place: the season, Jupiter and Venus, the weekday and a clean window. This search takes those days and adds the rules that need your two charts: Jupiter for the bride, the Sun for the groom, the Moon and tara for both, the first-born rules, the 8th lagna and the rising sign.

Do we need both birth times?

No. A partner can be entered by birth star and pada. The rules that need a birth time, month or tithi are skipped for that partner, and the result says which.

Why did a date from the year list drop out?

Your charts can bar a listed day for the two of you. The result names every removed date with the rule that removed it.

What do “best” and “middling” mean?

Two things are graded. The month: Magha, Phalguna, Vaishakha and Jyeshtha are best; Margashirsha, Kartika after Devotthana and the first third of Ashadha are middling (Narada, quoted in Muhurta Chintamani p. 235). A lagna’s points: 15 or more of Muhurta Chintamani 6.90’s 20 is best, 10 to under 15 middling.

Is Jupiter required for the bride?

The texts grade it, and the result shows the grade (Muhurta Chintamani p. 233). Vyāsa, quoted on p. 234, needs no Jupiter for a bride past ten, so it never drops a day.

Is anything we enter saved?

No. The details are used for this search only. Nothing is stored, and no birth detail appears in the page address, so there is no link to a result.
