When is Ganesh Jayanti?

In Delhi: Wednesday, 10 February 2027, Sunday, 30 January 2028 and Thursday, 18 January 2029. Each city keeps its own day by its own sunrise and sunset. Dharmasindhu p. 89

Is it the same as Ganesh Chaturthi?

No. Ganesh Chaturthi is the Bhādrapada śukla Caturthī; this is the Māgha śukla Caturthī. Its Vināyaka-vrata follows the Bhādrapada day rule. Dharmasindhu p. 89

Why are there two times?

The texts give two vows on this Caturthī: the Vināyaka-vrata at midday, and the night vow to Ḍhuṇḍhirāja with sesame laddus at pradoṣa. Each takes the Caturthī at its own time, so in some years they fall on different days. Dharmasindhu p. 89; Nirṇaya-sindhu p. 329; Vratarāja f. 82

Why is the date different in the US or UK?

Ganesh Jayanti is decided by the Caturthī at midday and at pradoṣa at the city. The tithi begins and ends at the same moment everywhere, but sunrise and sunset come at different hours, so a city far to the west or east can keep another day. Dharmasindhu p. 89

The Vināyaka-vrata: The Māgha śukla Caturthī by the Bhādrapada rule: the next day if it reaches that day’s midday, else the earlier, joined with Tṛtīyā. Dharmasindhu p. 89; Nirṇaya-sindhu pp. 47, 198.
The night vow: The Caturthī covering pradoṣa (DS p. 89; NS p. 329; VR f. 82). On both days, the earlier, Tṛtīyā-joined day; on neither, the later: our reading.
Midday and pradoṣa: Midday is the third fifth of the daytime; pradoṣa the three muhūrtas after sunset.
Sunrise and sunset: At the centre of the Sun’s disc, with refraction, for the chosen city. Every date is that city’s own.
